Okay “need” as opposed to actually need, but the ones I put in my bathroom look so nice, and I do have more windows in the house… 😀

Feh

Months that can fuck off and die: January,  February. Suck my nonexistent dick, both of you grey, shitty, freezing months. At least March is light at the end of the tunnel. My poor transplanted shrubs…I don’t see how they’re going to make it. 🙁

In good news, I’ve decided to keep my bebe persimmon trees (AKA Little Brown Sticks) indoors in pots until its full-on spring and warm. Paw paw, too, when they arrive. Inexplicably, he didn’t ship them together even though I bought them less than 24h apart. Whatever. I also got some cute baby houseplants at Walschwitz today: Dieffenbachia ‘Camille’, Dracena ‘Lemon Lime’, Philodendron ‘Silver’, Philodendron ‘Moonlight’ and one whose name escapes me ATM, but it’s variegated like Cordyline, though related to Maranta. Stomanthe ‘TrioStar’; that’s it. Pretty pink/green/white streaked leaves that apparently fold up at night. If I can figure out what I want to do with the former towel shelves from 544–I got hammered metal spray paint today–the new plants will probably be happiest in my bathroom. I think there’s enough light in the south-facing window even though it has privacy film over it, and they’ll appreciate the humidity, especially in winter. I still have to decide whether to cut down the shelves or not, though. Anyway, I gave the plants a good soak in the sink when I got them home, so they’re okay for now.

Edit: The Dracena isn’t ‘Lemon Lime’, it’s ‘Lemon Surprise’ which has wider yellow stripes. Not that anyone could tell the difference unless they were side-by-side, but they are separate cultivars.

Another edit: It’s a good thing I shook the box before I threw it out, or my little paw paw sticks would have been frozen to death and gone forever. I didn’t see them when I looked, and I groped around in the long, triangle box without detecting them, but they were in there after all. I potted them together because they were so skinny, but potted the persimmon separately. We’ll see how that works out when spring comes, but C. was right; the poor little things didn’t want to be put out in the cold, even sleebin’.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO TYPE YOUR ENTIRE PRODUCT REVIEW WITH THE FUCKING CAPS LOCK ON, REST ASSURED THAT I’M NOT EVEN GOING TO READ IT BECAUSE I ALREADY KNOW YOU HAVE NOTHING INTELLIGENT TO CONTRIBUTE.  Jesus Christ, you morons! Caps lock is not cruise control for cool; it just makes you look stupid. If you don’t know what a Shift key is for, how can I think you’re bright enough to understand the purpose of the item you’re reviewing? People who type all in lower case lose credibility for being lazy, but at least they aren’t BELLOWING THEIR REVIEWS AT ME!

Aaaaand the ridiculous spelling award of 2013 goes to the genius who doesn’t know the difference between wrought iron and rod iron. Rod iron table? Seriously? Here I thought a “sequence top” was the most ridiculous possible eggcorn. Humanity never ceases to amaze me in its ability to be stupid.

“…chlorine gas, which is extremely deadly…” You fucking dumbasses. It’s either “deadly” (kills you) or it’s not. There aren’t degrees of something killing you; it either kills you or it doesn’t. If it kills you, it’s deadly. If it could kill you but won’t necessarily, it’s potentially deadly. If it doesn’t kill you, it’s not deadly at all. Pay attention, class: YOU CAN’T SAY “EXTREMELY DEADLY” BECAUSE IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE AT ALL!

We went and got our first Christmas tree for the new house yesterday. It was so strange to not have to worry about the size because we have so much more room! I got the biggest tree I have ever got in the history of Christmas here. We had to get new lights because we have never had a tree this size before and didn’t have enough. I don’t care though, because it looks nice even if it could use a few more ornaments. I got my TV and my Roku box installed in my closet, so I can watch Netflix or Amazon video while I iron. For that matter, I have Plex Media Server installed on my computer so I can stream video or music from my own collection. Now, if I could just find the time or inclination to actually go in there and work, instead of inventing other projects, I would have my ironing caught up! We also brought the bird feeder over from the old house so I can put out mix seed for the birds that don’t eat sunflower, thistle, or suet cake. My Christmas shopping isn’t done, but I have a good start on it, and I’ve spent a lot of money, so I guess that counts!

Edited to add a picture. A crappy picture because those giant windows fool camera sensors, and of course a backlit Christmas tree looks sparse during the day, but it does illustrate the lack of “goddamned tree in the way”, and after the crowding of the old house, I’ll take it! We even have another living room in case we get sick of looking at the tree, though we will have stockings hanging by the fireplace (that we don’t use because wood is messy and I haven’t yet found an insert I like).

It’s freezing cold, and I hate snow, but I love my quiet back yard. Traffic sounds are distant, and the only footprints across the snow belong to the cats and woodland creatures. Ahhh. I love it here.

Machine washing a gorgeous plum/fig coloured dry clean only chenille sweater on the hand wash cycle. It’ll either be fine or ruined, but I’m just that wild and crazy!

Most of our non-furniture stuff is over there already, and if the electrician and furnace guy are to be believed, we might make our goal of Thanksgiving. May or may not have furniture, but if I have to sleep on the couch, or even the floor, I’ll make it work somehow. I love it over there; it took the Goldisox about a week to find their feeders, but the chickadees, nuthatches, and piklets (and even a couple of downy/hairy woodpeckers) less than two days to find the trays of sunflower. The tall feeder worked perfectly, too! Still need to decide where shrubs will be going…sigh. We’ll soldier on, though; I need to be where I can watch my Disney blurds!

We went over yesterday to bleach the musty smell out of the storage shed. Since I couldn’t smell anything but bleach by the time I left I have no idea weather it worked, but given the fact that I washed down all of the walls with hot water and bleach at about 50/50, I would think that anything living on the ugly paneling is dead. I also swept out all of the crud that was leftover from the old carpet and sprayed strong bleach solution into the cracks. Of course I mopped down the floor with bleach. I also managed to get some in my eye which fucking hurt. Oh cool. It understood fucking hurt! Anyway, we’re going back over later today to take some storage containers and hopefully we can put them in the storage shed without having them smell bad. We’ll see.

EDIT: The bleach seemed to work. I can smell bleach in there for sure, and I will for at least a few days to come, but I can’t smell mildew! I took over some summer shoes, extra hair spray and conditioner, and cleaned up my mini fridge to use for coffee milk until the real one gets delivered. P. is loving the cupboard space, and I’m loving the windows, the birds and the space. I suggested that we get cable run to the storage shed/smokehouse so P. can watch TV and smoke if he wants, and he said do it. Mini fridge will go out there once the real one arrives. I’m going over to let the carpet cleaners in tomorrow (not staying–they’ll lock up), and on Tuesday, I’ll leave work a bit early to meet the cable guy. I’ll need to stay for that; he’ll be installing the phone, too, and making sure we have functional cable (internet…don’t give a damn about TV) in the rooms where we want it. My eye isn’t sore anymore from the bleach drop that flicked off the window shade, either. Yay!
