I forgot to post this. My tree has bloomed once before–it had a few on it when it was in the west window at 544–but not as many flowers as it has in the big southern exposure window here. It probably should have been repotted last summer, but I never got around to it. Anyway, it’s happy here.

First real snow. I’m about half-finished Ol’ Kitteh’s outdoor house, but no pictures yet. I worked outside and it was fucking cold. Anyway…

Also, one of the few times Old and Crusty has allowed me to take a photo.

Ol’ Kitteh’s bunny furs for his bed arrived. I put them on his towels to get him used to sleeping on them. At first, they were New and Different and to be avoided entirely, then they were molten lava, then he was tired enough to put two feet on them, then all four, and then…

I was looking for a video editor on Play, and the first three all wanted permission to read my phone number, call status, and the number calling. What the actual fuck?! The one I’m installing has in-app purchases, but at least it’s not trying to read my phone number or call status. I can understand other permissions like wifi and media, and the camera/mic, but be fucked if a video editor needs my phone number, or needs to know who’s calling. Jesus Christ!

I was dead tired last night, but stayed up just a few more minutes to put the laces back in the boots I’d dyed. I’m happy with the colour, and I was pleased with the performance of the oil dye. The deglazer made enough of a difference that it was worth buying. “Ist gut.” 🙂

In spite of the fact that the door was originally hung by an incompetent, we got the door down, installed the kitteh door without incident, and re-hung it. Skanny and Old Kitteh have already used it; we’re going to leave it taped up until Tuesday because P will be home to make sure they can figure out how to use a magnetic flap.

I took the dead vines off the fence today. I had help. It was weird. Really weird. Went pretty quick with two of us, though!

I found a few of P’s phlox flowers that had escaped the frost, so I picked them in hopes of not having to sit and feed Sarah.
I had her on my hand and I was holding the flower so she could drink, but then I knocked over the bottle of leather deglazer that I forgot I hadn’t closed this morning, and we had to get outta Dodge because it’s basically acetone, which is what you put in a kill jar if you have an insect collection. She ended up on the kitchen counter on a towel that I’d had wrapped around the bowl of dye I used for my boot laces.
They’re still wet, but my laces came out well. After the dye on my boots dried, and I soaked them with neatsfoot oil, the laces were too light. I think once they’re dry, they’ll be perfect.

Of course they go together! First, I own a skilsaw. I know…circular saw, but to me, it’s always been a skilsaw, and this one is actually a Skil saw. Not a fancy one, but good enough for me!

I also deglazed and dyed the second pair of MIA Bedford boots. I used oil dye, and thank Christ I did the dyeing in the garage because by the time I’d finished, it looked like a crime scene. They’re still wet, but I like the colour. I wish I’d done the deglazing outside because the house reeks of acetone. Still have to dye the laces, assuming they aren’t dark enough once the leather is dry, and I have a tiny bit of leather dye left in case I need to touch up after they’re dry. For posterity, I used Fiebings oil dye in dark brown, and nearly a whole bottle each of deglazer and dye. A few drips inside, but the trim isn’t leather, and I’ll clean the spots up tomorrow with deglazer.

Southern Yellowjacket queen, looking for a winter home. I’m the last to kill insects and spiders (except non-native roaches and those fucking Japanese beetles…DIE-DIE-DIE!) but those bitches are aggressive, and my home is not theirs. Polistes, sure. Cicada killers, no problem. Digger wasps, welcome! Great Black Wasp, come on in! A few foraging yellowjackets I’ll ignore, but a nest? No.
