I groomed/tidied up my front room plants, and although it could’ve used another coat of heritage white, it was too cold and windy to paint, so it went as it was. I think it came out okay. B not only gave me the lexan for the shelves, but cut it to size for me! Now I just have to make sure it doesn’t get scratched.

I also decided to install the window film. It’s opaque, and I don’t know what it’ll look like in daylight, but it’s there, and hopefully it’ll stay in place. I used dish detergent and water instead of just water.

EDIT: It looks fine during the day, too. I don’t love it, but since the window might get condensation (maybe) I can’t use my spray, and this will be easy enough to remove if I tire of it.

The first guy turned out to be a scammer, but this one didn’t (and I got a full refund for the first), and now I am the proud possessor of approximately 330 hours of what is probably my favourite TV show ever.

It’s turned cold again, but one brave miniature daffy-down-dilly bloomed anyway.

Heritage white (when I forget)

I didn’t even notice until I got home yesterday and saw about 10 of the purple ones had bloomed.

The hyacinths, daffy-down-dillies, and those goddamned lilies have grown a lot since Saturday!

I was too lazy to properly strip it, but I think with a couple of coats of white primer and antique white paint, it’ll be okay. B gave me some lexan (and even cut it to size for me), and once this is painted, the lexan will be shelves, and it’ll be a plant stand. The other one in the “parlour” is black with wood shelves, but I’m putting this one over by the loveseat, so I think antique white will be better. Clear shelves will be better for plants, since it’s across the room (although the walls are light, and I’m planning on low-light plants there anyway.)

Only one coat of primer so far (and even that only on what I could reach without flipping it), but I’ll do one more, then a couple of coats of Rustoleum paint.

Apropos of exactly nothing and having nothing whatsoever to do with the Projects category, here is a revoltingly cute baby opossum. Yes, I do pronounce the “o”; I wasn’t born in a shack by a crick.

We’ve had some unseasonably warm weather the last week or so, and I’ve taken a few pictures, but hadn’t got around to posting.

I cleaned buckets/leaves/spiky balls off the patio last Saturday because it was just too nice to be indoors. I found this little dude asleep under some leaves, so I took him over to the edge of the woods and put him under some leaves there.

The frogs were out over the weekend, taking advantage of the warm sun. All Southern Leopards in these pictures, but my bullfrogs are still in residence.

Hyacinths, miniature daffy-down-dillies and those goddamned lilies are making good progress. I dunno what happened to the mini tulips; they’re either late, or they didn’t survive the winter.

There’s still some cold weather coming, so my fingers are crossed, but both of my Diervilla ‘Kodiak Orange’ have made it so far, and even have little leaves starting to grow.

I predict good things for the Southern Leopard frog population in our pond this year. I actually didn’t notice there were two of them at first; I was originally trying to get a picture of “this frog” and another that was close by. When the other one hid, I got closer to “this one” and realised it was froggy sexytime.

The Bistro is slowly awakening for another year. I just hope we don’t get warm weather long enough for everything to really start growing, and then a cold snap that kills new growth!

“Don’t be OCD. Written by a perfectionist.” Or not…because a perfectionist would care to know that OCD stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Now repeat your sentence, you dumb bastard. It sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Yes, yes it does! A person may have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but cannot be Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Idiot. The English language…have you heard of it?

If I were as fast as Onje, and had his claws, I would catch European starlings and House sparrows, and I would wring their necks. Then, I would hang the bodies by their feet from the trees as a warning to the rest. I am so sick of feeding those fucking trash birds when I’m trying to feed my native birds, and I wish they would all just die en masse. Virtual spit on the grave of Eugene Whatever-his-name, who intentionally released a plague.

Damn, I buy a lot of seeds! I had managed only the Grey-headed Coneflower as far as cold-stratification until today, so I did the rest. This year, I didn’t use soil; I used leftover sand from the fish tanks. It’s supposed to be inert, so I’m hoping I haven’t ruined all of my seeds, but if it doesn’t leach anything into a fish tank, I can’t imagine it’ll affect the seeds except that by stirring them into damp sand, I’ve scarified the seeds that needed it without actually expending much effort. 😀
