It actually is Sunday.  I caught up! Still not done laundry, but I told P. that if he’ll take his shirts to be pressed, I’ll pay for Skanny’s replacement Seresto collar and the bird bath he wants (P., not Skanny), so no ironing. Yay! I raked up the grass from yesterday so the Lawn Nazi […]

I spent most of the day mowing the lawn. All of it. I wasnt going to do the whole thing, but I hadn’t yet decided what to plant in the flowerbed I’d dug in the morning, so I mowed and thought about it. P. was playing a tournament, and I knew he was going to […]

Not much; I was too tired to care. Portulaca coming along: I hate iris, but it does look nice with the spiderwort. I’ll leave it, at least for the time being. This is the “people plants area” anyway, and I haven’t yet filled up the back yard or south side! Butterfly food garden coming along. […]

Laundry day, so less accomplished, but… P. says this is the “tornado honeysuckle”…he’s right. It does resemble tornado! I took these on Thursday,  but didn’t get it ID’d until Saturday. Manchurian lilac ‘Miss Kim’. Im pretty sure this is Royal Purple Smoke Tree. Mexican sunflower broke ground! Less enthusiastic than the zinnia, but growing!

I’ve been busy and got woefully behind, so I’ll catch up. Wednesday was fence posts day. Concrete bucket. They cut a cable (guess whose!) because a marking was off, but got it fixed within an hour or two because J.’s wife’s father works for Charter. Whew. Ironically, where they hand-dug because they were close to […]

Do not fuck with zinnia. Zinnia will open up a can of green whup-ass on you and come back for seconds. These were planted on Saturday afternoon. It is Tuesday. Not just a few; the raised lines are zinnia. Nothing yet from Tithonia, but hey–it’s been three days! Finally remembered the buds on the trumpet […]

Not that I felt like planting anything, but my two hardy hibiscus arrived and had to go in the ground. This one is “Fireball” This is “Crimson Crush” The seller sent a note that they’d die back until June. Good to know, though I probably wouldn’t have given up that quickly. The celosia I planted […]

Sunday, May 4th, 2014

Hehe. I got some jewelweed. Left at twenty past seven this morning, armed with an insulated cooler bag and my new composite trowel. I put it back by the creek in the shade of one crabapple tree. It wilted, but only one was still wilted a few hours later, so hopefully it survives. In the […]

Not so much accomplished, but I ran out of dirt and wanted to feel like I’d had a weekend, so I’m satisfied. I got the Mexican sunflower and zinnia done, which was the big one. Ready to plant. Planted, watered in and ready to grow! Mexican sunflower Zinnia Cut and Come Again (36-48″) Mixed garden […]

When I got home on Friday (too tired to post yesterday), I thought, “Jesus Christ…did he start an hour ago?” Nope. There was just that much fucking honeysuckle. This is when they were close to done! Honeysuckle Guy was not fucking around. I told him, “Go nuclear,” and he did just that! He and the […]
