Bee Logic:
Medium-sized bee house properly positioned 6′ high on a tree that gets morning sun, and has plenty of damp clay soil beneath. Bees–“Nah.”
Small bee house sitting on a chunk of concrete in the most-travelled area of a covered patio, gets morning sun eventually, no soil really close by, and 8″ from human feet. Bees–“Aw YISS!”
The yellow house is just about full, and a couple have actually filled in spots between the tubes.
The blue house has fewer filled tubes, but almost all of them are in the process of being filled. I know this because I attempted to put smaller tubes inside the large tubes I didn’t think they were using. I was wrong.
I didn’t take a picture because it’s hard to see, but I finally got the trellis anchored to the brick. It ain’t pretty–I chickened out on drilling into the brick and used Loctite PL Premium polyurethane adhesive instead–but hopefully it’ll stay. I should have done it before the honeysuckle leafed out, but I’m lazy, so I had to work around the leaves. I’ll probably lose a few of the flowers that were growing on the back side, but better that than the weight of the vines pulling the trellis down completely. Anyway, I have lots of buds, and a few blooms, and I fucking love this honeysuckle (so do bees).
