Ardal O’Hanlon, Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey. All of ’em, fucking brilliant. Interesting, too, that all of the good Britcoms go a few seasons, then the stars don’t want to even hear about them again. Rowan Atkinson doesn’t even like Blackadder anymore, Dylan Moran says that Black Books was fun in series one, arduous in series two and fun again in series three (because he knew he was finished with it), but that he’d never do it again and there will never be a series four. If these were American comedies, they’d be milked for all they were worth, running until not only the stars were sick of them, but the viewers, too. Father Ted could never have gone on without Dermot Morgan, but even if he were still alive, he was finished with it anyway. Died of a heart attack the day after taping the final episode. Ardal O’Hanlon does just KILL me in it, though–“Oh, right, yes”. Usually, I hate North American comedies (unless Trailer Park Boys counts as one), but My Name Is Earl shows some promise, I think. It doesn’t send me laughing into a mild asthma attack like my favourites, but it’s pretty funny. Channel Four has the new one, The IT Crowd, and that isn’t too bad at all. Hasn’t split my sides, but definitely amusing and surely a Graham Linehan. ‘Course, the Irish guy is the funniest. 🙂
P. is being boring tonight. Played the hell out of Half Life 2, beat it, and hasn’t yet learned BIA, so he was in bed at 2200h. I’m not going to bed yet, though; maybe I’ll take a DVD of The Young Ones out to the living room. Rik Mayall’s pretty damned funny, if somewhat loud. Loved him as Lord Flashheart, though.
P.S. Heard from D. this AM. Hadn’t in a while. He amuses me, except I don’t know exactly why.
